Our approach to our Environmental and Sustainability Policy is through a coordinated environmental strategy that everyone agrees and understands is their responsibility, engenders a culture of environmental responsibility and enlists the support and commitment of employees, suppliers, and business partners. This Policy reflects our achievements, and also our ambitions. We will be updating it regularly as we refine our ideas and learn more about how to be more

The Approach

Brenell Training is committed to taking the lead in minimising the impact of its activities on the environment.

The key points of strategy to achieve this are:

  • Minimise waste by evaluating operations and ensuring they are as efficient as possible.
  • Minimise toxic emissions through the selection and use of its vehicles and the source of its power requirements.
  • Actively promote recycling both internally and amongst its customers and suppliers.
  • Source and promote a product range to minimise the environmental impact of both production and distribution.
  • Meet or exceed all the environmental legislation that relates to the company.
  • Use an accredited program to offset the greenhouse gas emissions generated by our activities.

G. Hill – Managing Director

The Managing Director will be responsible for implementing this Policy and as far as is reasonably practicable ensure that:

Energy Use

The Company uses Octopus Energy for its energy supplies, they offer 100% renewably sourced electricity, which is certified by the REGO scheme that confirms it is 100% authentic renewable energy. We have invested in improved energy efficiency in the workplace using energy efficient light bulbs. All of our gas supply from Octopus has full carbon offsetting for the gas use. This means we are carbon neutral from our energy use.

IT Equipment

In order to avoid unnecessary use of energy, PC’s are turned off at the end of the day. This will also give the unit time to cool down properly and will mean that the fans will have to work less thereby reducing wear. Brenell Training Consultants has banned the use of screensavers as an active screensaver uses the same amount of energy as when the screen is in full use. They can also prevent the machine from going into auto hibernation/power-save mode. Low energy IT equipment will be purchased whenever possible.

Responsibility for Products

The Company considers the environmental impacts of its products at all stages of their life cycle from design, to manufacturing, customer use, and finally disposal and reacts to minimise an negative impact.

Resource Consumption

The Company seeks to address its impact on the environment through the adoption of a sustainable procurement policy. We conserve resources through efficient use and careful planning thereby reducing wastage to the lowest practicable level.

Treating Emissions

The Company is committed to reducing emissions from our needs to travel to client’s premises. Measures are taken to ensure that vehicle exhaust pollutants are kept to a minimum. Travel is reduced by using Skype or conferencing systems to reduce the need for face-to-face meetings and reduce vehicle/travel needs.

Disposal of Waste

We minimize waste, and whenever possible recycle materials and use recycled products. We dispose of all waste through safe and responsible methods. We actively promote recycling of all waste and utilise multiple bin solutions to separate all recycling.

Transportation

Through coordinating route planning and training events we promote the use of public transport, car sharing and the use of more environmentally friendly vehicles.

The Supply Chain

We select and work with our suppliers in an endeavour to ensure that they recognise and reduce the environmental impact of their products and transportation. Over 90% of our suppliers are based locally. Wherever possible products are not purchased from abroad, thereby reducing the company’s carbon footprint.

The Wider Environment

Wildlife and surrounding habitats, trees, flora, fauna, archaeological and heritage remains are protected as appropriate.

Responsibilities and continual improvements

Overall responsibility will fall to the Managing Director of Brenell, however everyone within Brenell is responsible for their part in delivering and maintaining our environmental and social impact through our day-to-day operations, making the right decisions and considering the impact it may or will have before taking action or making changes. We believe that our policies can and will change as more opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce our carbon & waste footprint in the world.
